After breakfast in your hotel get ready for the full day outing tour to either of the following places :
Versailles was created by Louis XIV (The Sun King) in the mid-17th century when he moved the court from Paris. Many historians believe he did this because there was so much intrigue among the nobility and politicians during his reign that he was afraid to have them out of his sight. He therefore built Versailles large enough to house his entire court and ordered the aristocracy to stay with him there.
Some of the highlights of the Palace are the State Apartments (both King and Queen’s), Opera House and the Chapel Royal. Don’t miss the beautiful Hall of Mirrors, a 75m-long ballroom with 17 huge mirrors on one side and, on the other, an equal number of windows looking out over the gardens.
Do try to leave time to visit the exquisitely landscaped grounds with their fountains, sculptures, and beautiful gardens. If there is a music or fountain show on your chosen date your ticket will include access to the shows.
Your tour also includes tickets to the Grand Trianon, Chapel, Queen’s Hamlet (Hameau de la Reine), the replanted English Garden and other delightful attractions.
In the afternoon you will meet up again with your hostess and board the coach for departure to Giverny and the home of the celebrated Impressionist painter Claude Monet. Again your hostess will collect your tickets at the entrance and allow you to skip the queues at this popular attraction.
One of the founders of the Impressionist movement, Claude Monet spent almost 43 years in Giverny finding inspiration in the gardens around his house. He diverted a stream, made a pond, filled it with water lilies and built a Japanese-style footbridge.
You will see Monet’s beautiful garden with the water-lily pond, the subject of so many of his paintings, and his house, in which the original colour schemes have been retained. Monet had a passion for colour which was at odds with the fashion of the day.
At the end of the day you will board your coach for the journey back to Paris.
Option B – Louvre museum à Full of spectacular artworks and treasures from antiquity, the Louvre is one of the world’s greatest museums. But the sheer size and richness of the collection can be daunting. Step back into antiquity and view treasures like the Seated Scribe or the Venus de Milo. Marvel at the explosion of creativity in the Renaissance with Michelangelo’s Slaves and of course Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. See 19th French masterpieces like Ingres’ La Grande Odalisque and Géricault’s The Raft of the Medusa.
Rest of the day is free for some fun while shopping at the fashion city of the world. For reasons that elude most of us, Parisians often seem to make impeccable fashion sense look effortless. Even on modest budgets, they seem to just know how to pull it all together. It’s no surprise, then, that the city remains the global center of all things style-related. After museums and monuments, shopping alone attracts millions of visitors each year. While the city is studded with great places to shop, these uber-popular shopping districts in Paris are guaranteed to satiate discount-hunters, designer divas, window shoppers, and fashion victims alike. There’s room for all budgets, too, so looking snappy doesn’t have to rhyme with going broke. Go ahead and make sure you take home a little “je ne sais quoi”…
